Laptop Fire on Jet Blue Flight Causes Diversion

A Jet Blue flight heading toward San Fransisco from New York diverted to Grand Rapids after a laptop onboard caught fire.

The fire is reportedly attributed to the lithium ion battery that is used in rechargeable devices. A passenger onboard stated, “We’re at 35,000 feet and all of a sudden we hear an announcement and we look back in row 25 and we saw everybody standing up and smoke coming around and we didn’t know what was going on.”

The flight continued on after diversion to land safely in San Fransisco. To date, there have been 12 battery-related fires.

3 Killed in South Australian Plane Crash

Three people are dead after a small plane crash in South Australia. A spokeswoman for the Australian Maritime Safety Authority stated, “We became aware there might be an issue shortly after take off when a distress signal was detected.”

The plane is identified as a Cessna Conquest. According to records, the plane took off with three people onboard. The identities of the deceased have not been disclosed.

Crash investigators are reported to be traveling to the scene.

Teen Killed in Wisconsin Plane Crash

A small plane crash in northwestern Wisconsin killed a teenage pilot and severely injured the passenger.

Recovery of the wreckage is underway according to the local sheriff department but the area has been difficult to access: “It’s a rural setting. There’s no easy access to get to it. We walked a long way to get to the scene.”

The teen pilot died on the scene. The passenger was taken to a local hospital and then airlifted to a clinic in Minnesota.

United Engine Fire Causes Evacuation

A United flight headed to San Fransisco from Newark Airport had to be evacuated after control tower crew spotted fire in the Boeing 757’s engine.

The fire was noticed at the plane was taxiing the runway on its way to takeoff. A passenger onboard stated, “Then the flight attendants, in a controlled but somewhat frantic manner, rushed us off the plane and we used the slide.”

Three injuries were reported, but were stated to be minor. One ankle injury was among them.

NTSB Releases Report on Mukilteo Plane Crash

The NTSB has released a preliminary report on the Piper PA 32-260 which crashed landed on a busy intersection in Mukilteo, Washington. The NTSB report claims the plane crashed because “power loss occurred around 400 ft.”

After sudden power loss, the pilot “declared an emergency, and checked both the fuel selector valve and fuel mixture position, and confirmed the engine primer was in and locked. With limited time to troubleshoot, he began to turn his attention to performing a forced landing.”

Both the pilot and the passenger survived. However, on the way down, the plane streaked two traffic lines and spilled ignited fuel on nearby cars.

Maples Field Plane Crash Being Investigated by State Police

Virginia State Police are now investigating the plane crash involving a 1940 Fairchild R40-404 at Maple Field Airport.

The pilot aboard, William Hargreaves, was not injured however the passenger, Donald Rhynalds, was flown to Fairfax Hospital.

The plane attempted to land on the airport’s grass runway, but slid off the path and overturned. The FAA have joined the investigation.

Coast Guard Discontinues Search for Missing Florida Flight

The Coast Guard has, for now, ended its search for the MU-2B plane that went missing during its flight from Puerto Rico to Florida this past Monday.

Search and Rescue coordinator Christopher Eddy stated, “This was a swift and significant loss and its impact has reverberated through everyone that participated in the search.”

The NTSB will open an investigation to determine the cause of the crash.

Dad of Missing Florida Plane Is “Heartbroken” Over Crash

The father of the two children, James Ramsey, who went missing when a plane bound for Florida failed to arrive is “heartbroken.” The father stated he “lost what [he] loved more than anything.”

Ramsey was the partner of Jennifer Blumin, the high profile design executive who also went missing after the flight failed to arrive.

The Coast Guard has confirmed the debris found near the area the plane last went missing matched that of the missing plane.

CEO Jennifer Blumin Confirmed on Missing Plane Off Florida Coast

The CEO of a design company called Skylight Group, Jennifer Blumin, was confirmed to be on the MU-2B aircraft which disappeared and left a debris field off the Florida coast.

The plane had took off from Puerto Rico on May 15 and was destined to arrive in Florida but had never landed. Florida Coast Guard officials had later found a debris field in the area where the plane last went missing.

Jennifer Blumin, shown in 2011, is missing, along with her sons, 3 and 4, and Nathan Ulrich.

No survivors have been found as of yet and the search continues. A Coast Guard spokesman stated, “Her family is working with investigators and we politely ask that you respect their privacy at this time.”

Debris Field Found Amid Search For Missing Florida-Bound Plane

The Florida Coast Guard discovered a debris field in the water after a plane carrying a a man and a mother and her children went missing. The area of the debris field is around the area where the plane went missing.

The Coast Guard is searching the scene for survivors. Those on the plane are identified as Nathan Ulrich, Jennifer Blumin, and her sons. At the time the plane went missing, the plane was at 24,000 feet and traveling 300 knots.

The plane was bound for Titusville, Florida.
