Passengers on American Airlines Flight 383, which had one of its engines catch fire speeding down the runway, are suing the airline.

Ahmed Furno, one of the passengers pursuing litigation, claimed, “People couldn’t breathe. The oxygen mask did not fall. There was no one on the loud speaker.” He added, “[i]n all that chaos, there was no one there to help.”

The case filed in a circuit court of Illinois alleges the airline negligently maintained both the aircraft and the handling of the accident. Floyd Wisner, the leading attorney of the charges against American Airlines, stated “GE and American and Boeing…need to take a harder look at this problem because I’m concerned it’s a recurring problem.”

The firm plans to include more passengers on the claim as well as defendants including manufacturers of the defective engine.
