NTSB Shares Details of 2016 O’Hare Jet Engine Fire

Author: admin

The National Transportation Safety Board has released what they believe started the jet engine fire of an American Airlines plane. A 57 pound piece of the turbine disc broke off and hit the fuel line while the plane was preparing to take off. The NTSB believes that this is not something that could have been foreseen in a pre-flight inspection.

During the emergency evacuation, the flight attendants had a difficult time trying to contact the pilots via their new, more complicated interphones. While the scene was chaotic, the flight attendants were able to get everyone off of the plane with no deaths, and only one major injury.

The NTSB is looking at this case to see what can be improved upon for future evacuations.

If you were injured on a flight, remember to seek appropriate medical care first, and to keep good records of your interactions with medical providers.
