Within the last twenty four hours an American Airlines flight traveling from Miami to Washington, D.C. experienced turbulence so severe that passengers were injured. Some of the passengers on the flight were international travelers, that is, passengers who connected in Miami from outside the United States. (For instance some of the passengers were returning from Costa Rica). These international travelers who may have been injured are protected by an international treaty known as the Montreal Convention. The Montreal Convention provides a method for international travelers to recover monetary damages after an injury. Read the text of the Montreal Convention here.
