A Jet Blue flight heading toward San Fransisco from New York diverted to Grand Rapids after a laptop onboard caught fire.
The fire is reportedly attributed to the lithium ion battery that is used in rechargeable devices. A passenger onboard stated, “We’re at 35,000 feet and all of a sudden we hear an announcement and we look back in row 25 and we saw everybody standing up and smoke coming around and we didn’t know what was going on.”
The flight continued on after diversion to land safely in San Fransisco. To date, there have been 12 battery-related fires.
